Where to Stay in La Fortuna: Best Areas & Hotels
Find your perfect home in the rainforest for 2026.
Choosing where to stay in La Fortuna depends on two things: your budget and whether you have a rental car. The area is divided into three main zones, each offering a completely different experience.
1. La Fortuna Downtown (Budget & Social)
The town center is the best place for solo travelers, backpackers, and those relying on public transport. You'll be steps away from the best sodas, supermarkets, and bus stations.
Recommended for:
Budget travelers, social seekers, and those without a rental car.
2. The Road to the Volcano (Luxury & Resorts)
This is the "Golden Mile" of La Fortuna. Here you will find the world-famous hot spring resorts. Most hotels in this area offer a **direct view of the Arenal Volcano** from your room.
3. El Castillo (Nature & Privacy)
About 25 minutes from town, El Castillo is a quiet village with the best views of Lake Arenal. It's the place to stay if you want to be completely surrounded by deep jungle and silence.
Vacation Rentals vs. Hotels
If you are traveling as a large family or for more than 4 days, an Airbnb or Vacation Rental might be better. There are many eco-lodges and modern villas just 10 minutes outside the town that offer private kitchens and much more space for the same price as a mid-range hotel.
